Erik ten Hag favourite might get one last chance at Manchester United redemption

It has been nothing if not a season of redemption for certain unfancied players at Old Trafford.

Manchester United wanted progression on and off the pitch this summer after Erik ten Hag impressed in his first 12 months in the dugout. It was time for his United to take the next step, without the much-maligned Glazer family, and cheques amounting to £183million were handed over for three main transfer targets.

Following a shaky start, Andre Onana has looked increasingly at home in recent games as he continues to shoulder the pressure of what Gary Neville says is the most heavily scrutinised position within English sport. The transfer jury remains out on Mason Mount, while Rasmus Hojlund still has work some to do.

The Danish forward has caught the eye since a £72million switch from Italian outfit Atalanta this summer. However, the general feeling is that Hojlund needs time to develop, nurture and the fun part in that is United supporters will get to see his work-in-progress unfold in front of their own eyes - but he needs a helping hand.

Hojlund is yet to open his Premier League account despite grabbing three goals in the Champions League already. Of course, that non-return is not solely down to the promising Denmark international himself as he - like all strikers - relies on quality service and that is one of many things United are lacking as a collective right now.
