Manchester United fans make same point on Harry Maguire losing captaincy and Erik ten Hag decision

Harry Maguire has been stripped of the Manchester United captaincy after discussions with Erik ten Hag.

The England defender has said he is 'extremely disappointed' to no longer have the armband at United after Ten Hag outlined his reasons for doing so. The centre-half has vowed to 'continue to give my all every time I wear the shirt'.

Maguire was given the captaincy by former United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in January 2020, only a matter of months into his time at the club. He lifted his first trophy as club captain earlier this year in the form of the Carabao Cup.

However, under Ten Hag, Maguire has fallen down the pecking order in the heart of defence at United. The likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, Victor Lindelof and Luke Shaw are among the players ahead of Maguire in that department.

Maguire's future at United remains unclear and there is the prospect he could be sold this summer in a bid to raise funds. West Ham United have been credited with having an interest in the defender.

United fans have had their say on social media about the decision and many have backed the defender to try and win his place back in the team, now he no longer has the armband.
