Manchester United encountering issues with Mason Greenwood transfer interest

A number of clubs have withdrawn their interest in Mason Greenwood following backlashes over potential moves on social media.

Manchester United confirmed last week Greenwood, 21, is to leave the club after they concluded an internal investigation that lasted six-and-a-half months.

Charges of attempted rape, coercive behaviour and assault were dropped against Greenwood in February and United's initial intention was to reintegrate him into the first-team squad.

However, a whistleblower leaked United's plans and supporters vehemently expressed their opposition to the possibility of Greenwood playing for the club again.

It is understood that while United have received multiple enquiries about Greenwood, once the identity of some clubs has emerged the clubs have backed off amid a backlash from their fans.

United are now reluctant to specify interested clubs in Greenwood and it seems highly unlikely he will leave before tonight's 11pm transfer deadline for most European clubs.

The Turkish and Portuguese transfer windows are open for longer, as is the window in Saudi Arabia, but Saudi Pro League officials have indicated none of their clubs will move for Greenwood.

Greenwood has not played since January 22 2022 and he has not trained with United since then. United do not intend to let Greenwood play for or train with them while he is still at the club. Greenwood is under contract until 2025.

United believe Eric Bailly and Donny van de Beek could move to different clubs after the Premier League window closes tonight.
