Liverpool FC 'wanted' Manchester United summer signing and more transfer rumours

Liverpool had reportedly held talks with Mason Mount before Manchester United agreed a fee with Chelsea for the midfielder.

Mount arrived at Old Trafford in a £60million deal to become Erik ten Hag’s first signing of the summer. The England international was one of a long list of players sold by Chelsea as Todd Boehly attempted to stay within Financial Fair Play regulations amid his mass spending sprees.

The new United No.7 started the opening two games against Wolves and Tottenham before picking up an injury that has ruled him out for a number of weeks. Liverpool, meanwhile, turned their attention to Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai after talks with Mount broke down.

The Athletic adds that Liverpool had priced Mount at around £40m, far below what Chelsea were hoping for. Furthermore, the 24-year-old is said to have had his heart set on a move to United over Anfield.

Meanwhile, Belgian outlet LDH claims Anderlecht had the opportunity to sign Donny van de Beek this summer but chose not to pursue a deal. The Dutchman was apparently keen on a move to the historic European club but they instead focused on bringing in other targets.

Van de Beek has not played a competitive game for United since suffering a season-ending knee injury against Bournemouth in the first match of 2023. Galatasaray and Fenerbahce have registered interest in the midfielder although would need to act quickly to secure any kind of deal with the Turkish window closing tonight.

Van de Beek has played 60 times for United and has scored just twice, having had an underwhelming period at United since his 2020 arrival.
