Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof makes prediction about teammate in contract talks

Manchester United defender Victor Lindelof has heaped the praise on youngsters Kobbie Mainoo and Willy Kambwala after their respective breakthroughs this season.

Mainoo was set for a prominent first-team role before picking up an injury during pre-season in the United States. He returned from that issue in October and was carefully handled, but he's since broken into Erik ten Hag's plans and he's now one of the first names on the team sheet.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last week that United have opened talks to extend Mainoo's contract in recognition of his growing importance.

It's understood the performance-related bonuses in Mainoo's current contract have been triggered, which is why there is no panic from the player's camp to urgently push for a new deal.

Nonetheless, United are set to reward Mainoo with improved terms and many have predicted he has the potential to be at the heart of the club's midfield for the next 10 years.

Lindelof recently discussed Mainoo's rise with club media and said: “He’s a fantastic player and a very, very smart young player. You know, he's got the right mentality.

"I think the best thing for him is just stay calm and, you know, listen to obviously the older players and try to learn as much as possible and pick up a few things. But then as well, just be yourself and express yourself on the pitch.

“That's the most important thing. And that's why he's at this stage as well, because he's done that throughout his career so far, and I think it's super important as well to just let him develop naturally.
