Bury Market police incident: Everything we know so far with cordon near Mill Gate shopping centre

A large cordon is in place in Bury town centre this afternoon after what appears to be a serious incident. Police and paramedics are on the scene on Murray Road, near to the Mill Gate Shopping Centre. The air ambulance also landed nearby.

Three people have been hurt followjng the incident near Bury Market this afternoon - this is what we know so far:

Three people have been taken to hospital following the incident, a spokesperson for the North West Ambulance Service said. GMP said the extent of their injuries is 'unclear' at this time.

One person working close to the scene saw emergency services at around 1pm. “As soon as I came out a helicopter was outside, the police were already there,” he said. “It was surprising to see something like that.”

In a statement, a Greater Manchester Police spokesperson said: "Greater Manchester Police are currently responding to an incident on Murray Road, Bury. The extent of the injuries sustained by those involved are unclear at this time, but officers are at the scene to conduct further enquiries.

"Anyone with information that may help is asked to call 101 quoting incident 1338 of 11/03/2024."

A spokesperson for NWAS said: "NWAS responded to a police incident following a call at 12.06. Three patients have been taken to hospital."

The M.E.N.'s reporter at the scene, Stephen Topping, has posted on X saying: "There are currently two police vans, one marked car and one unmarked in this area.

"An air ambulance was seen in this area earlier this afternoon. Three people have been taken to hospital. The nature of the incident is yet to be confirmed. Debris can be seen on the ground near Princess Parade, where officers are in attendance.
