Manchester United defender Teden Mengi considering Amiens loan bid

Manchester United defender Teden Mengi is weighing up a move to France after receiving a loan bid from Amiens SC.

The Manchester Evening News revealed last month that academy graduate Mengi was set to leave United on loan this summer and that he was attracting interest from European and domestic sides.

Mengi, 21, is now considering a loan offer to play for Amiens, who play in France's second tier.

Sources have indicated the opportunity for a new challenge abroad appeals to Mengi and it's thought the physicality of continental football would be ideal for the centre-back as he looks to put his injury problems behind him.

Mengi was set to leave on loan in the January transfer window, but he sustained an injury against Real Betis as part of the warm-weather training camp in December and that scuppered his exit in the winter.

He returned to first-team training at Carrington in March as he looked to complete his rehabilitation and he's now fully fit.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer handed Mengi his senior debut against LASK in the Europa League in August 2020 and he's since had loan spells in the Championship with Derby County and Birmingham.

Mengi is contracted at United until the summer of 2024 and the club have the option of another year.

The transfer window is in full swing and United have got their hands on three players well in advance of the September 1 deadline, with Rasmus Hojlund joining Mason Mount and Andre Onana at Old Trafford.
