Manager Keith Boanas looks ahead to Chatham Town’s game against York City Ladies at the Bauvill Stadium in the Women’s FA Cup fourth round

Chatham Town Women stand on the cusp of something special on Sunday - but manager Keith Boanas knows the visitors this weekend will be eyeing those same rewards.

Chats take on York City in the fourth round of the FA Women’s Cup at the Bauvill with a place in the last 16 at stake and potentially a lucrative draw against a leading WSL side.

Both clubs are already at the most advanced stage in the competition in their history, but it’s not just the prestige on offer - there’s a whopping £54,000 for the winners.

Boanas - who led Charlton Women to FA Cup final glory in 2005 - knows just what a win would mean to either side.

He said: “It’s massive for them and it’s as big for them as it is for us.

“They're coming down the night before, they’ll be well prepared. Their season will revolve around this almost totally, I would imagine.

“This is a massive thing for them to fight for, so I think it’ll be about making sure we turn up on the day.

“[The prize money] is immense. Twenty years ago [Charlton] won £5,000 for winning it outright. In that sense, it’s crazy but it’s good. It could be better but it shows how far forward the game’s come.

“For a club like us, it’s a lifeline. It’s game-changing. But that will be the same for York.

“I’d say for both teams this weekend, it’s equivalent to the cup final itself because, in reality, neither of us are likely to get to that final. We have to approach it, which we do every game anyway, with that mentality.”

Chatham haven’t played since losing 3-1 away to Milton Keynes Dons on the first Sunday of the year, a major blow to their promotion hopes in National League Division 1 South East.
