Man United handed dream Joao Gomes transfer path as £38m deadline set

The number of midfielders linked with a move to Manchester United this summer has almost doubled in the last 72 hours following interest in Paris Saint-Germain star Manuel Ugarte cooled.

Alternative targets are now being eyed with the likes of Youssouf Fofana and Sander Berge being linked with a move to Old Trafford. Adrien Rabiot, Richard Rios, Frenkie de Jong and Ederson have also been mentioned as potential profiles to become Erik ten Hag’s new No.6.

However, the most simplest midfield transfer deal for United to complete could come in the shape of Joao Gomes. The Wolves and Brazil ace has caught the eye with his performances in England since his move from Flamengo in January 2023.

The 23-year-old has made 49 appearances for Wolves and was a regular in Brazil's Copa America campaign over the close season. This summer has seen him linked with a number of top European clubs and a report from Football Transfers has suggested that Gomes is one of the players being under consideration by Ineos and Dan Ashworth.

It's believed that Gomes could cost around £38m - more than double what Wolves paid for him over a year-and-a-half ago. Gary O'Neil's men have already lost one key player in Max Kilman with Pedro Neto and Gomes two assets strongly linked with a big-money move.
