Man United and England star earned £220-per-week as a postman after hanging up his boots

It's difficult to envisage any of England's Euro 2024 stars trading their football boots for a postman's uniform.

But that's exactly the path former Manchester United and England player Neil Webb chose. Webb enjoyed four successful seasons at Old Trafford during the mid-1980s, where he clinched the FA Cup, two League Cups, and both the UEFA Super Cup and Cup Winners Cup.

However, after deciding to retire from football, he embarked on a career route seldom followed by his peers in the sport, reports the Express. Webb holds the unique honour of being among a select group of ex-professionals who played under both iconic managers, Sir Alex Ferguson and Brian Clough. He was even part of Bobby Robson's England squad for the 1990 World Cup in Italy.

Yet, following his retirement in 1997, the former midfielder took up the role of a postman, earning a humble £220-per-week. His new role was a stark contrast to his footballing days, even going as far as to say that you "won't be seeing any footballers from the last 10 years doing it."

Webb's career is one many professionals would envy, having earned 26 caps for England. He was part of the team that reached the World Cup semi-finals in 1990.

It seemed likely that the former United player would have been a key figure in Sir Bobby Robson's midfield for years to come, but Webb's England career ended abruptly when he ruptured his Achilles during a match against Sweden. In an ironic turn of events, Webb's injury paved the way for young upstart Paul Gascoigne, who seized the opportunity and made the central midfield
