Man’s heartbreak after his ‘kind’ XL bully dog 'Spooky' is killed by police less than 24 hours after going missing
A man has spoken of his heartbreak after his ‘kind’ XL bully dog was killed by police less than 24 hours after going missing.
The 26-year-old from South Manchester, who asked to remain anonymous, claims his dog Spooky was just under a year old when he went missing from the Chorlton area on Tuesday, February 13 at around 3pm.
He claims Spooky escaped from his friend’s yard who was looking after him while he took his mum shopping.
After discovering Spooky had escaped the owner claims he immediately called kennels in the area to try and find him but to no avail. He said he also published a post on Facebook urging anyone who had seen Spooky to get in contact.

He claims Spooky was later found by a member of the public who called Greater Manchester Police (GMP). Spooky’s owner claims he managed to reach out to the person who found Spooky and they passed on his contact details to the police.
Two days later he claims he received a phone call from an officer at GMP who told him the devastating news that Spooky had been put down the day before after being found without a muzzle on.
Speaking to the Manchester Evening News about the moment he heard the heartbreaking news, Spooky’s owner said: “I was shocked. I couldn’t believe what had happened to him. I’d seen him a couple of days earlier and he was healthy and happy. The worst case scenario I was expecting was a fine from the police, not this.
“I had plans with Spooky and all those plans went because they killed my dog.The last fond memory I have of him is him sleeping next to me on my lap.
