M6 LIVE: Huge delays of up to TWO HOURS after lorry overturns

There were huge delays on a stretch of the M6 this afternoon after a lorry overturned.

The incident happened on the southbound carriageway between junction 20 for the M56 and junction 19 for Knutsford at around 9.45am this morning. National Highways said a lorry 'partially overturned on the merge'.

A 'complex recovery operation' took place. Two lanes were closed off.

There qwew delays of up to two hours between junction 22 and junction 19. In a post on X at around 12.45pm, National Highways North West said: "UPDATE #M6 southbound between J20 (#M56) and J19 (#A556) #Cheshire.

"LANES CLOSED 2 lanes (of 3) remain closed for a complex recovery operation of a lorry which partially overturned on to the verge earlier this morning. 120 min delay to journeys between J22 and J19." The lanes reopened by 2pm.

All three lanes are now open on the southbound carriageway between J20 and J19.

According to National Highways, traffic is now delayed for around 90 minutes.

The lorry has now been righted and is being secured for removal from the motorway.

Lane two has been reopened, with lane one still shut.

Long delays remain.

According to traffic alert service Inrix, traffic is also slow through Warrington as drivers try to avoid the M6.

Congestion on the M6 is back to J21A for the M62 Croft Interchange.
