Man City to receive £20m transfer windfall for player with just eight appearances

Manchester City are set to receive a welcome financial windfall without even playing a match.

City are still reeling from losing to Manchester United in the FA Cup final on Saturday. Despite a late Jeremy Doku goal, City lost 2-1 with Alejandro Garnacho and Kobbie Mainoo on the scoresheet for United.

Pep Guardiola's side earned the financial reward of winning the Premier League for a fourth consecutive season and qualification for the Champions League in the process. Just 24 hours on from losing the FA Cup final, City will receive a welcome bonus to boost Guardiola's transfer kitty for this summer.

Sunday saw Leeds United and Southampton face each other in the Championship play-off final. Adam Armstrong scored the only goal for the Saints as Southampton claimed a 1-0 win at Wembley Stadium.

One player who was key to the victory for the Saints was Taylor Harwood-Bellis. The centre-back has spent the season on loan from City with Southampton and has helped the club secure promotion to the Premier League.

As part of the loan agreement between City and Southampton, the St Mary's club will now sign Harwood-Bellis on a permanent deal as a result of being promoted to the Premier League. The loan deal includes an obligation to buy worth £20million, which Southampton will now have to pay to City this summer when they sign Harwood-Bellis.
