Man City get John Stones update after Euro 2024 injury scare for England

John Stones and Luke Shaw have returned to training as England intensifies their preparations for Euro 2024. Manager Gareth Southgate has been dealing with fitness issues and player absences in the lead up to the summer tournament.

In a positive development, all 26 squad members took part in Tuesday's training session, their first since arriving in Germany the previous night. A handful of spectators gathered at Ernst-Abbe-Sportfeld in Jena to see Stones and Shaw participate in the session.

Manchester City defender Stones was forced off the pitch with an injury during Friday's 1-0 friendly loss to Iceland but he seems to have recovered from that potential setback. Stones was replaced by Ezri Konsa during the break of the final warm-up match to the minnows and posed a concern ahead of the Group C opener against Serbia with Liverpool's Jarell Quansah on stand-by.

Shaw hasn't featured since mid-February during United's 2-1 win over Luton Town with a hamstring injury. The left-back has suffered reoccurring problems after being rushed back into Erik ten Hag's side.

England will begin their Group C campaign on Sunday against Serbia in Gelsenkirchen, before facing Denmark and Slovenia.

With experienced players like captain Harry Kane, Kieran Trippier, Stones and Kyle Walker leading the youthful vigour of Jude Bellingham, Phil Foden, Cole Palmer and Kobbie Mainoo, England have hopes of lifting the Henri Delaunay Trophy on Sunday, July 14.
