England legend's scathing Jack Grealish assessment ahead of Man City transfer cull

Jack Grealish should leave Manchester City unless they sell Kevin De Bruyne and give him a central role in the team - because he's not good enough to be a winger.

That's the brutal verdict of former England star Chris Waddle, who says the attacker hasn't done enough to be a starter for City or in the Euro 2024 squad.

Grealish suffered a disappointing end to the season. Dropped by Pep Guardiola for key games in City's run-in, his form faltered despite the Blues romping to a fourth successive Premier League title.

Grealish only scored three goals throughout the season, and hasn't scored since December, as he saw a number of in-form English stars like Anthony Gordon and Eberechi Eze challenge him for an England spot. He was named by Gareth Southgate in the provisional 33-man squad for the Euros, but then axed before the plane left for Germany as the Three Lions boss trimmed his numbers to 26.

Waddle knows better than most what being a top-class winger is all about. The former Newcastle United, Tottenham Hotspur and Marseille star won 62 caps for England before becoming a successful pundit.

And he says Grealish's cautious approach with the ball means left wing isn't his best position, and he may have to leave the Etihad Stadium for the good of his career.

"I agree with Southgate's decision to leave him out, it was right," said Waddle. "He played 90 minutes in the last eight games of the season, I know City are an incredible team, hard to get in, but if you want to play for England you have to be playing football.
