Man City's next generation and who could be the Blues' new young star

Every year, Manchester City set out to better their achievements of the year before, from senior to academy level.

With three successive Premier League titles for the senior team, under-21s and under-18s, City are clearly doing something right. Central to those successes have been the progression of players from academy to senior team, led by Phil Foden.

Last season, it was Cole Palmer and Rico Lewis who successfully made the step up to help City to win the treble, with outgoing under-21 captain Shea Charles making his senior debut at the end of the season. The academy hope that there will be more senior debuts next year.

Could 2023/34 be the year that Palmer and Lewis kick-on, or a loanee like James McAtee comes back to play a part under Pep Guardiola? Or could one of the impressive under-21 forwards break into Guardiola's plans just like Lewis did last year?

Lewis was City’s Academy Player of the Year last season but only played four times for the under-21s. Instead, he was a key player in Pep Guardiola’s treble-winning campaign, transforming how City play and surprising even his youth coaches at how quickly he adapted to senior football. He surely has a long career ahead of him at the Etihad.
