Man City handed Ederson injury update ahead of Premier League title run-in

Ederson is expected to return for Manchester City before the end of the season after scans revealed his injury isn't as bad as initially feared.

The Brazilian injured his shoulder in a challenge against Willy Boly in the first half of the Blues' 2-0 win against Nottingham Forest on Sunday and he was eventually forced off at half-time. He later left the City Ground with his arm in a sling and Pep Guardiola's initial view was that the injury "doesn't look good".

Further checks on Ederson's shoulder have revealed that the injury isn't as significant as it first looked, however, and it is hoped he will be fit enough to return before the end of the season, with City still to play four Premier League games and the FA Cup final.

There is no desire to rush Ederson back with Stefan Ortega impressing as his deputy this season and the German is likely to continue in goal for the visit of Wolves to the Etihad this weekend. Ortega has also been City's cup goalkeeper this season and is set to retain that role for the Wembley showdown with Manchester United on May 25.

Ederson could return to contention for the Premier League fixtures against Fulham, Tottenham and West Ham. His withdrawal at the City Ground was the third time this season he has gone off injured in a Premier League game, having also picked up injuries at Newcastle and Liverpool.
