Man City charges latest as Richard Masters makes Premier League admission

Richard Masters can not confirm the hearing into Manchester City's charges will have been settled by the end of the 2024/25 season.

City were charged in February 2022 with more than 100 breaches of Premier League rules over 13 years, including nine consecutive years of failing to give an accurate picture of their finances. The most serious charges would demand expulsion from the league if proven, and the club have denied all of the accusations.

The Premier League and City will present their case later this year, with The Times reporting this week that an independent panel will begin hearing the arguments next month. It is hoped that the verdict - including any appeal - will be settled by the end of the season, although Premier League chief executive Masters said timings are not under the control of the league.

"You're asking me to speculate on the timing of it, and I simply can't do that unfortunately," he told Sky Sports News. "I think it does need to be resolved.

"It's not in our hands. It's in the hands of an independent panel. They're in charge of the timing and running of the process, and we must let them get on with it

"The way that our rules work is we announce charges, and we announce the decision when that process is completed, and that will happen. I have confirmed publicly that a date has been set but I can't be drawn on when that date is or the substance of the case itself."
