Major disruption to Manchester trains due to 'emergency' incident
There was major disruption to Manchester trains on Sunday evening (January 26) following an 'emergency' incident. Services between Manchester Piccadilly, London and Birmingham were affected.
Emergency services were called to the incident between Stockport and Stoke-on-Trent. All lines between the major stations were closed.
The nature of the incident has not yet been confirmed. Avanti West Coast and CrossCountry services were impacted on Sunday evening, from around 7.30pm.
It is thought the incident was reported close to the Macclesfield area. British Transport Police has been approached for further details.
National Rail said in an update: "Due to the emergency services dealing with an incident between Stockport and Stoke-on-Trent all lines are currently closed. As a result, trains may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised."
Avanti West Coast services between Manchester Piccadilly and London Euston were impacted, as well as CrossCountry services between Manchester Piccadilly and Birmingham New Street /Bournemouth / Reading.
