Maidstone United manager George Elokobi says they have other targets after confirming he didn’t speak to Joe Pigott about a possible return

George Elokobi says Joe Pigott’s name came up at Maidstone - but he never spoke to him about a possible return to his hometown club.

Former Stones striker Pigott, 31, was a free agent after leaving Leyton Orient at the end of last season.

The ex-Charlton, AFC Wimbledon and Ipswich forward joined Folkestone at the end of last week, making his debut in a 4-1 Isthmian Premier win over Whitehawk.

Pigott’s move to Invicta saw him reunited with Jay Saunders, his old manager at the Gallagher Stadium.

Maidstone are likely to face Pigott when they take on Folkestone in an FA Cup second qualifying round tie at Chatham Town’s ground this Friday (8pm).

“I’m sure he’s done well here,” said Stones manager Elokobi.

“Did his name come up? Yes, but the player has to make a decision.

“He’s chosen Folkestone, that’s fine, that’s entirely down to an individual, so I wish him all the very best.

“But I never spoke to him. I didn’t speak to him.

“We’ve got our eyes on other targets.”

Maidstone have strengthened their squad with the addition of midfielder Teo Kurtaran.

He made his debut as a second-half substitute against Horsham on Saturday.

Kurtaran, formerly of Walton & Hersham, spent time on trial at National League Yeovil over the summer.

He was one of the few to impress Elokobi as United lost 3-0 to the Hornets on Saturday.

“You saw the ability there, you saw what he can bring to the team,” said the manager.

“It’s important we keep that department fresh.

“I was limited in terms of the quality in there and he’s someone that likes to pass forward, likes to pass in those tight spaces and penetrate defensive lines.

“He’s got good qualities technically but also he’s calm.
