Maidstone United goalkeeper Nathan Harness expected to be fit to face Torquay after going off injured in 5-1 friendly win at Brentwood

Goalkeeper Nathan Harness should be fit for Maidstone’s National League South game at Torquay this weekend.

Harness went off holding the base of his back during the first half of United’s 5-1 friendly win at Brentwood on Saturday.

He was caught in a 50:50 after racing out of his area to clear the ball and appeared to land badly.

Harness was replaced by Lenny Holden but assistant manager Craig Fagan expects the former MK Dons keeper to be available at Plainmoor as two sides chasing promotion go head-to-head.

“I believe he’s fine, it’s just a whack he took,” said Fagan.

“He cleared the ball and the centre-forward went into him, but he’s fine. He’ll be training on Tuesday and he’ll be fine for the weekend.”

All the goals came in the second half as Maidstone beat Isthmian Premier Brentwood in a mid-season friendly, arranged after both sides found themselves without league fixtures.

United were keen to play, having seen last weekend’s match at Chelmsford postponed due to a frozen pitch.

They didn’t want to go two weeks without a game before Torquay.

John Gilbert scored twice, with Jephte Tanga, Riley Court and Taylor Foran also on target in a comfortable victory, while half-time substitute Mo Faal provided two assists on his first appearance back in Stones colours.

“The opportunity came up to have a game and it was something we wanted to do,” said Fagan.

“It was important because last weekend’s game was postponed and over Christmas we make sure we give the players time off to be with their families.

“There were players who needed minutes, the likes of David Agbontohoma and Mo.

“Yes, we can train and everyone keeps their fitness up, but we needed a game situation to work on a couple of things and get people playing with each
