Ebbsfleet United manager Josh Wright reacts to 3-0 defeat at Maidstone United in National League South

Ebbsfleet boss Josh Wright was left hurting by the poor goals they conceded at Maidstone on Tuesday night.

The Fleet lost 3-0 in National League South, a second defeat in a week at the Gallagher after their Kent Senior Cup exit.

“I’m bitterly disappointed as you can imagine, losing any football game,” said Wright. “You know it hurts, just like I said on Saturday, when you win, there’s nothing better.

“We can dress it up, but it was just another game and I’d be saying if we’d won the game, it’s just another three points.

“We fell short of our standards, but what I would say is in terms of the start, that first 5-10 minutes earning the right, I thought we made a good start.

“The first goal is a really soft goal and the second even worse. We warned them about it in terms of when the goalkeeper gets hold of it. We probably don’t need to cross the ball from where we are, it’s our striker crossing the ball and we know that there’s not going to be bodies in the box when that’s the case. But then one ball like that puts you 2-0 down at half-time .

“I tweaked a few things at half-time and made a couple of changes. I saw a reaction and if it goes 2-1, it’s a really nervy scoreline, but we didn’t and once again goals change games.

“We conceded a really naive goal, a little bit like last week here in terms of trying to play out in silly areas with their high press and before we know it we’re 3-0 down.

“Three really poor goals. I’m sorry for the fans because I know it’s a big night for them.

“It’s a tough one to take but we have to regroup because we’re coming off the back of a really good run.

“It’s an apology in terms of the result from us and I’m really disappointed in our performance. We dropped below par in a lot of areas,
