Maidstone United boss George Elokobi looks forward to visit of title-chasing National League South side Hornchurch
Boss George Elokobi is looking forward to Maidstone’s “exciting test” against their title-chasing visitors.
The Stones, now just two points behind seventh-placed Maidenhead, will target a sixth successive victory at the Gallagher Stadium on Easter Monday (3pm).
In their way stands Hornchurch, who are only five points behind leaders Dorking - and have a game in hand on them - at the business end of this season.
But there’s virtually no margin for error for ninth-placed Maidstone, either, if they are to break into the top seven with just four fixtures of the regular campaign left.
Speaking after their 2-0 derby triumph at Dover on Easter Friday, Elokobi said: “You would love to win every single point that is available.
“That’s how we have attacked the season. Hornchurch is our next game and we have got to prepare right for it - a tough test at home - and we have got to make sure we look after our business.
“It’s going to be an exciting test. We want to test ourselves against the best teams in the league and they are one of the best teams in the league.
“They have proven that, based on their consistent levels. They have got some outstanding players so it’s a good test for us.
"However, we won’t get carried away. You can never be too high, or too low, in football.
"We have got to make sure we give the players as much detail as possible but, also, find the right balance between recovery and training to ensure, on Monday, we have a bit of freshness in the team.”
While Maidstone have been left without an experienced and recognised striker following the news that Mo Faal ruptured his ACL in their 2-1 win over Weston-super-Mare at the start of March, they have still found a way to cause opponents issues.
