M62 traffic LIVE updates as drivers face five-mile queues following incident

Drivers are facing five-mile queues on the M62 approaching Greater Manchester.

A lane has been closed on the westbound carriageway between junctions 23 near Huddersfield and 22 at Saddleworth this morning (November 7).

National Highways says the lane closure follows a large spillage of diesel, with resurfacing required on the road.

Motorists heading to Manchester from Yorkshire are being hit by delays ahead of rush hour.

A spokesperson for National Highways Yorkshire wrote on X: "#M62 westbound between J23 #Huddersfield (west) and J22 #Denshaw #Rochdale.

"1 lane (of 3) is closed due to a large diesel spill. Resurfacing is required.

Delays of 20 minutes, with approx. 5 miles of congestion on the approach. Updates to follow."

Drivers heading from Yorkshire to Manchester are facing long delays on the M62 this morning.

There are currently five-mile queues approaching junction 22 at Saddleworth.

It follows a fuel spillage on the road, which has led to urgent repairs needing to take place, according to National Highways.

Motorists are affected from junction 23, west of Huddersfield.
