M602 shuts after police respond to incident

The M602 motorway in Salford was closed in both directions today after a man was seen on a bridge. Officers were in attendance at junction two, for Gilda Brook Road, near Eccles this afternoon (September 5).

Traffic was stopped in both directions while emergency services were at the scene from around 12pm. Queues were building approaching the area.

An update from the Inrix traffic monitoring system said: "M602 in both directions closed, queueing traffic due to police incident at J2 A576 Gilda Brook Road (Trafford Park / Eccles)." Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police has confirmed the motorway was closed due to a male on a bridge.

He was taken down safely into the care of medics. At 12.45pm, the motorway reopened.
