Traffic was tailing back for several miles on the M60 following a 'multi-vehicle crash'.

All traffic was stopped on the M60 clockwise between junctions 16 at Clifton and 17 at Prestwich this morning (March 7).

It followed a collision, according to National Highways. Emergency services were at the scene.

Two cars were involved in the crash. There are not thought to have been any serious injuries.

Traffic was tailing back to junction 12 for the M62 Eccles Interchange. Queues were taking 45 minutes to clear.

In a post on X, a spokesperson for National Highways North West wrote: "Traffic has been STOPPED on the #M60 clockwise in #GreaterManchester between J16 (#Pendlebury) and J17 (#Prestwich) due to a multi-vehicle collision.

"All emergency services are on scene. There's a 45 minute delay on approach and congestion is back to J12."

Traffic was also slow on the opposite side of the M60 approaching the crash scene.

The clockwise carriageway has since reopened.
