M6 traffic LIVE updates as lanes CLOSED following crash

Two lanes have been closed on part of the M6 following a crash near Greater Manchester.

Drivers are facing queues approaching junction 23 for the A580 East Lancs Road, at Haydock Island, this afternoon (Junction 22).

Queues are tailing back towards Warrington, past junction 22 at Newton-le-Willows.

An update from the Inrix traffic monitoring service said: "Two lanes closed and queueing traffic due to accident on M6 Northbound from J22 A49 Winwick Link Road (Newton Le Willows) to J23 A580 East Lancashire Road (Haydock).

"Lanes one and two (of four) are closed."

Traffic cameras show long congestion with cars in the two right-hand lanes on the M6 northbound, affecting drivers heading towards Wigan.
