LIVE updates as fire breaks out at north Manchester industrial estate

Firefighters have spent the night tackling a large fire at an industrial estate in north Manchester. Crews were called to the Tulketh Industrial estate, off Kenyon Lane, Moston, at around 1.30am this morning (Thursday).

The blaze involves a number of 'commercial units', the fire service says. Eight fire engines and an air unit were drafted in to help tackle the blaze.

Residents have reported waking to 'thick, black smoke'. They are being urged to keep doors and windows closed.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) says it has brought the fire 'under control', but remains in attendance.

The fire service say crews have managed to bring the blaze 'under control' but that they 'remain in attendance to extinguish the fire and make the surrounding area safe'

No road closures currently appear to be in place.

One local resident told the M.E.N that she woke around 1:30am and rang 999 as she there was a strong smell of smoke.

She said when she looked out she could see 'thick, black' smoke coming from a few streets away
