M6 traffic LIVE: Motorways closed near Greater Manchester - latest updates
Commuters are being warned to expect disruption after two North West motorways were closed this morning.
Police have closed off a section of the M6 northbound near junction 32 for the M55, in Preston, following a crash this morning (May 15).
In a post on Facebook, a Lancashire Police spokesperson said: "We need to inform you that the M6 northbound is currently closed due to a traffic collision.
"We are hoping to get lanes one and two open again soon, but for now please plan alternative routes and avoid the area."
The motorway remains closed, with queues building approaching the scene and slow traffic on the A59 in Preston as drivers divert from the motorway.
Meanwhile, the M65 westbound was closed between junctions three at Riley Green and junction two for the M61 overnight, following a crash which led to a fuel spillage.
National Highways said an 'extensive clear up' was required at the scene. The road reopened shortly after 7am.
A National Highways spokesperson said: "Once units got to scene, it was reported that a large fuel spillage had crossed the carriageway following the collision which required an extensive clear up."

The M65 has now reopened following a clean-up operation.
It followed a crash which was first reported at around 2.50am.
National Highways said there was debris and a fuel spillage on the road following the collisiion.
The #M65 westbound is now OPEN between J3 #RileyGreen and J2 #Brindle (#M61 junction) following an earlier collision, debris and fuel spill.
