LIVE: M66 queues and major road CLOSED as heavy rain causes flooding - latest updates

Drivers were stopped on a Greater Manchester motorway after heavy rain caused flooding on the road.

All traffic has been stopped on the M66 northbound between junction one at Ramsbottom and the end of the motorway, where it meets the A56.

Vehicles were at a stand on the road from 7.10am this morning (May 29).

They have since been released, but the road remains 'partially blocked' with delays in the area.

It's one of two major roads near Manchester that have been affected by flooding this morning.

The A34 is closed in both directions near to Alderley Edge, between the Alderley Road and Congleton Road roundabouts.
