M6 crash: Delays on two motorways as lanes shut

Drivers heading north from Greater Manchester were being warned to expect delays following a crash on the M6.

Queues were building on both the M6 and M61 following a collision near Preston this morning (March 14).

Three lanes of traffic were closed off on the northbound M6 between junctions 30 at the M61, and 31 for the A59 Preston New Road.

A post from the Inrix traffic monitoring service said: "Long delays and three lanes closed due to accident on M6 Northbound from J30 M61 to J31 A59 Preston New Road (Samlesbury). Lanes one two and three (of four)."

Traffic was tailing back past junction nine of the M61, according to data from Google.

Meanwhile, there were queues tailing back to junction 28 on the M6, at Leyland.

All lanes have since reopened and congestion has eased on both motorways.
