'Police incident' saw mile-long delays on M6 near Wigan

Traffic delays were reported on the M6 motorway near Wigan tonight (Tuesday, March 18) due to a 'police incident' Traffic was stopped in both directions between Junction 25 and Junction 26.

National Highways first confirmed the incident at around 10.17pm. Emergency services were called to the scene, with traffic beinbg released by around 10.40pm.

A National Highways spokesperson said: "This incident has now cleared and all lanes are reopen in both directions on the M6 between J25 and J26 near Wigan following an earlier Police led incident. Delays clearing in the area. Have a safe onward journey. "

Inrix, the traffic data company, said: "Held traffic released, police incident over on M6 in both directions between J25 (Bryn) and J26 M58 (Orrell Interchange)."
