M56 LIVE as lanes closed after crash with long delays - latest updates

Long queues are building on a stretch of the M56 this afternoon after a crash.

Two lanes have been closed off on the eastbound side of the motorway towards Manchester. They are shut near junction 11 for Runcorn.

There has also been a spillage on the road, according to National Highways. Delays are building up to the closure.

Drivers have been urged to allow extra time for their journeys. In a post on X, National Highways North West said: "NEW INCIDENT #M56 eastbound within J11 #Runcorn #Cheshire.

"LANES CLOSED 2 lanes (of 3) closed following a collision and spillage. 35 min delay. Allow extra time if heading that way."
