M4 delays live updates as major queues build along 15-mile stretch

There are severe delays in both directions on the M4 on Friday afternoon. There is heavy congestion westbound on the M4 in Newport and traffic monitoring systems are reporting delays are more than 30 minutes.

Traffic is stretching from Brynglas tunnels back to Magor services. As of 3.30pm delay times were reportedly 40 minutes and were almost back to the Prince of Wales bridge according to our reporter at the scene. Delays have since eased but are still around 30 minutes according to motorists.

Shortly after 4pm a collision on the westbound service on the Prince of Wales bridge added to congestion. One lane has been closed.

There are also problems for drivers heading eastbound between junctions 27 and 29. Delays eastbound are around 15 minutes as of 4.25pm.

There is no apparent incident on either stretch and it appears both queues are due to volume of traffic during the weekend getaway. You can follow live updates below.
