Lofty aims, point to prove and the Jackson Muleka statement that will chime with Vincent Kompany

Jackson Muleka will arrive at Burnley with a point to prove and his lofty ambitions already fit the Vincent Kompany bill.

The striker is closing in on a Clarets move from Standard Liege in a deal believed to be worth around £3.5million. He ended last season in sensational goalscoring form at Turkish club Kasimpasa, hitting 11 goals in his spell including a run of eight in six games. The DR Congo international certainly knows where the net is.

It was that goalscoring form that prompted his move to Europe in the first place, when he joined Standard Liege in the Pro League in Belgium. He impressed for TP Mazembe in his homeland where he scored goal after goal before moving on.

Nine goals in his debut campaign, again including a striking run when he hit five in five towards the end of the season, showed he had the capabilities to thrive. But he fell out favour and in the end his departure on loan last term brought about a fractured end from Liege with the player critical of club chiefs as he left. Burnley are set to provide him with a four year contract, bringing an end to his stay in Belgium.

The Championship will be an unforgiving division to make his name in but he arrives with the faith of the manager Kompany, with the Belgian boss again an influence in the player's decision to move to Turf Moor.

Reaching England has perhaps always been the end goal for the 22-year-old, who cited Sadio Mane and Didier Drogba as players he'd like to emulate when leaving Africa in 2020.

"It is always to do better than those which preceded, Why not do better than Sadio Mané, Didier Drogba, Samuel Eto’o," he said upon leaving for Belgium in 2020.
