Vincent Kompany outlines Burnley transfer strategy as he explains what new signings will bring

Vincent Kompany and Burnley remain keen to strengthen the squad ahead of the new season but the Clarets chief is pleased with the summer business thus far and is happy to look within for solutions to positional problems.

Burnley signed four players last week and are closing in on a deal for Standard Liege midfielder Samuel Bastien having seemingly missed out on his team-mate Jackson Muleka. The Clarets have work to do to flesh out a squad hit hard by departures at the end of last season while there is likely to be interest in Maxwel Cornet and Nathan Collins before the window shuts.

But Kompany, two weeks into the job, sees plenty of talent already in the building and has been impressed by his new quartet. "Every day I keep discovering the players we have now," said the Turf chief.

"We will keep looking at the market and see how we can strengthen but at the same time my first idea is to look within our team and plug the gaps where we need to. There is a good vibe about it so we want to maintain that and see how we can strengthen the team."

And the Belgian outlined how he feels the new signings will fit in, believing Scott Twine can flourish as a second striker while hailing Luke McNally's ability, the potential of CJ Egan-Riley at centre back and how Taylor Harwood-Bellis can help plug the leadership void left by Ben Mee and James Tarkowski.
