Mark Robins disappointed in Vincent Kompany's Callum O'Hare transfer comments amid Burnley bids

Mark Robins was not impressed with Vincent Kompany's Callum O'Hare admiration and insists he wants to keep the midfielder in the Midlands amid Burnley's transfer interest.

The Clarets chief, speaking to admitted he was a huge fan of the 24-year-old. The Clarets have had bids knocked back O'Hare and the Coventry man as a candidate for one of the attacking midfield roles in Kompany's 4-2-2-2 system.

The Belgian was tight-lipped on the prospect of a deal but spoke of his admiration for the former Aston Villa youngster. Speaking after the pre-season win over Shrewsbury on Friday night, Kompany said: "I'm all for transparency. I would rather not lie but these things are hard until they are done, they can still go wrong. We think he is a great player, and we think he would be great for us but is a deal done, no."

O'Hare featured for Coventry in their pre-season win over Oxford on Saturday, coming on early in the contest and playing nearly 80 minutes. After the game, Sky Blues boss Robins said he was keen to keep one of his key players despite the persistent Burnley interest and voiced his disappointment in Kompany's words.

“I’ve seen their manager made some comments which I wasn’t happy with, but it is what it is," said Robins. “Everyone knows he has been subject of interest. Burnley have been there all summer and haven’t gone away, so we will see what the next few weeks brings.

“Me personally, I don’t want to lose him, so we see how we go. I want Callum O’Hare as part of this team, there’s no doubt about that, but if I get that wish or not remains to be seen, then we take it from there, but for now he is our player and I’m delighted that he is.”
