Liverpool vs Manchester United fixture at Anfield set for record attendance with 7,000 extra fans

Liverpool expect to set a record Anfield attendance of 57,000 fans for the visit of Manchester United this weekend.

United play Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night and a trip to Anfield on Sunday follows that clash, in what could be a season-defining week for Erik ten Hag's side.

Liverpool are set to open their new Anfield Road Stand for the game and an extra 7,000 supporters will take seats in the upper tier, providing the club receives a safety certificate.

With the new stand open, Liverpool are expecting a 57,000 crowd and that will be an Anfield record for a Premier League fixture.

United lost 7-0 against Liverpool when visiting Anfield last season, despite only being 1-0 down at the break. They were also defeated 4-0 in Merseyside in the 2021/22 season when Ralf Rangnick was in charge.

"Second half it was not us. It was not our standards. We didn't play as a team," said Ten Hag after the 7-0 defeat earlier this year. "We didn't stick to the plan, we lose our heads. We didn't do our jobs. We didn't track back and it was really unprofessional."

"We have seen in the past we can bounce back. After Brentford, after Manchester City. This is definitely a strong setback and is unacceptable. We let the fans down and I'm really disappointed and angry about it.

"It is a reality check... It's a strong message [that] we get."

United lost 3-0 against Bournemouth in their most recent Premier League fixture and that loss meant they have now lost 18 games in all competitions in 2023, their highest total in a calendar year since 1989.

United have not beaten Liverpool at Anfield since January
