Liverpool: Late move for £103m star now 'doubtful' at Anfield
Liverpool may have to wait until next summer to lure Jude Bellingham to Anfield as Borussia Dortmund are unlikely to sanction the midfielder’s exit ahead of the September 1 deadline, according to Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth.
The Bundesliga giants have already seen one of their star men depart in recent months, with Erling Haaland joining Manchester City for £51million, but Bellingham is continuing to attract attention.
According to The Athletic, Liverpool are very interested in Bellingham and facing competition from Premier League rivals Chelsea and Manchester United.
The report suggests Dortmund are unwilling to sell the 15-cap England international for less than £103million and are in a strong negotiating position as Bellingham’s contract, which does not include a release clause, has three years to run.
If Liverpool were to meet the Bundesliga giants’ valuation, it would result in the 19-year-old becoming the most expensive signing in the Reds’ history.
However, it appears that the Merseyside outfit are willing to play the waiting game as Bellingham is expected to make the move to Anfield next summer.
Spanish sources have revealed that Real Madrid are also courting the former Birmingham City man following Casemiro’s switch to Manchester United.
Sheth has doubts over whether a move for Bellingham is possible ahead of the transfer window slamming shut.
The Sky Sports reporter believes Liverpool could only get a deal over the line if they surpassed Dortmund’s expectations.
