Man Utd 'want to be in race' for £103m 'generational talent' at Old Trafford

Manchester United ‘will want to be in the race’ to sign ‘generational talent’ Jude Bellingham as Erik ten Hag continues his Old Trafford revamp in the coming months, according to journalist Pete O’Rourke.

Ten Hag took over as the Red Devils’ boss during the summer and was allowed to spend more than £200million before the transfer window slammed shut earlier this month, but Borussia Dortmund star Bellingham was not among the fresh faces to head to the red half of Manchester.

According to The Athletic, Manchester United are among a number of clubs who are keen to acquire Bellingham in 2023.

The report suggests Liverpool, Real Madrid and Chelsea are also in the race for the 15-cap England international’s signature, but it could take a bid of up to £103million to seal the deal.

Dortmund were in a strong negotiating position during the recently closed transfer window as Bellingham still has three years remaining on his £49,000-per-week contract.

But it seems a move away from the Bundesliga could be on the cards as Liverpool are understood to be making strong progress in their pursuit and working to find an agreement ahead of next summer.

Manchester United’s arch-rivals were assessing short-term midfield options as deadline day approached earlier this month, but Bellingham is reportedly expected to head to Anfield at the end of the season.

While Liverpool appear to be in pole position to sign Bellingham, O’Rourke understands that Manchester United will make sure they provide stiff competition for his signature.
