LIVE updates as police cordon off alleyway with girl, 16, in critical condition

A police cordon is in place down an alleyway off a main road after an incident that has left a girl in a critical condition.

Officers have cordoned off an area to the side of a barber shop on Wilbraham Road, opposite the Morrison's supermarket. Pictures show forensic officers on the scene.

Investigations appear to be centered around some bins down the cut-in. An officer is stationed on the cordon on the main road.

GMP say a 16-year-old girl is in a critical condition after officers were called to the scene on Tuesday night.

A spokesman said: "At around 7.30pm on Tuesday 30 April 2024, we were called by our colleagues at the North West Ambulance Service in relation to a concern for welfare of a teenage girl in an alleyway on Wilbraham Road in Manchester.

"The girl, 16, was taken to hospital to be seen by healthcare professionals where she remains in critical condition. A 21-year-old female was arrested on suspicion of supplying Class A drugs and remains in police custody.

"Enquires are ongoing at this stage."

Manager at nearby bar saw the crime last night and said she 'didn't realise the girl was so young'.

The man saw the cordon at around 8.30am this morning.

In a statement, a GMP spokesperson said:

"At around 7.30pm on Tuesday 30 April 2024, we were called by our colleagues at the North West Ambulance Service in relation to a concern for welfare of a teenage girl in an alleyway on Wilbraham Road in Manchester.
