LIVE: Crime Scene Investigation officers arrive at scene of fire as police erect cordon in Stockport - latest updates

A huge emergency response was sparked after a fire ripped through a home in Stockport in the early hours of this morning.

The blaze broke out at a house on Lawton Road just before 1.30am, the fire service said. Pictures showed huge flames and smoke billowing from the roof.

A large number of emergency services vehicles, including fire engines, police cars and ambulances, were pictured on the street as firefighters tackled the blaze. It has not yet been confirmed whether anyone was injured.

Crews worked through the night and remain on the scene this morning 'working with the local authority to keep the scene safe'. Police also remain on the scene, with forensic officers on the street and a cordon in place.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "Just before 1.30am this morning (Monday 13 May) several fire engines from across Greater Manchester were called to reports of a building fire involving a property on Lawton Road, Heaton Chapel.

"Crews arrived quickly at the scene. Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus used two hose reels, a covering jet and a turn table ladder to extinguish the fire.

"Firefighters have been in attendance for around six hours and are still at the scene working with the local authority to keep the scene safe."
