Live updates as huge fire tears through pub

Fire has broken out at a Welsh pub and destroyed most of the building, witnesses have said. The Gaerwen Arms on Anglesey in north Wales went up in flames on Tuesday afternoon and residents have been told to keep away and close windows and doors due to smoke.

One witness told North Wales Live the blaze broke out around 3.30pm and it "took hold of the pub very quickly". She added: "Already much of it has gone - I don't think it will be reopening any time soon. There are scores of people watching what's going on and filming the fire. It's sad, very sad."

North Wales Police said Chapel Street in Gaerwen is closed between the A5 and Lon Groes because of the fire. The police are asking motorists to avoid the area so that emergency vehicles can get through.

Meanwhile, North Wales Fire and Rescue Service said it was first alerted to reports of a fire in a building on Chapel Street, Gaerwen, at 3.35pm. Crews from Caernarfon, Bangor and Holyhead are currently in attendance.
