LIVE: Major fight breaks out in Piccadilly Gardens as man is rushed to hospital with serious injuries - latest updates

A large police cordon is in place in Manchester city centre this morning.

Piccadilly Gardens has been taped off.

Almost the 'entire gardens' has been shut off with officers standing guard, one eyewitness said.

There are two police tents which have been erected on the side of the square nearest to Market Street, another added.

It is understood the cordon has been in place overnight.

The nature of the incident is not yet known.

Greater Manchester Police (GMP) have been contacted for comment.

The M.E.N understands the injured man was stabbed during the incident.

A spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police (GMP) said:

Officers were called to reports of a fight in Piccadilly Gardens at around 9pm last night (Sunday 27 July 2025).

A 23-year-old man was taken to hospital with serious injuries.

Two men were arrested - a 19-year-old on suspicion of assault and a 23-year-old on suspicion of affray. They are both in custody.

A scene is still in place this morning whilst officers conduct their enquiries.

The cordon is in place after a man was seriously injured in a 'fight.'
