LIVE Police descend on Manchester street after body found in alleyway - latest updates

Officers have taped off an alleyway in Manchester with a forensic tent in place at the scene.

Police are in attendance in Moss Side this afternoon (August 6) with officers responding to a serious incident.

An alley which runs behind Great Western Street has been cordoned off by police.

Images from the scene show a blue forensic tent in place at one part of the alley.

At least two crime scene investigator vans have been seen in attendance in the area.

Multiple police officers are also in attendance at the scene.

Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed.

Greater Manchester Police have issued a statement. They say a deceased male was found at the scene this morning.

A GMP spokesperson said:

"This morning (Wednesday 6 August 2025) we were called to Great Western Street, Moss Side, where we found a deceased male at the scene. We are working to identify him and the circumstances which led to his death, which is currently unexplained.

"There are officers in the area conducting inquiries including extensive house to house and CCTV. We encourage anyone with information to get in touch on 0161 856 9923, 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 11"
