LIVE: Police cordon with tent in place on Greater Manchester street - latest updates

A cordon is in place on a Greater Manchester street following an incident overnight. Officers are at the scene on Abbey Hills Road, in Oldham, this morning (November 10).

A tent is in place on the street. An area of the pavement has been taped off, near to Whitby Road.

Police have also taped off an area to the rear of buildings on the street. It's understood Abbey Hills Road was closed earlier in the morning, but has since reopened.

Further details about the nature of the incident are yet to be confirmed. Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.

Residents were told of a 'serious incident'.

The police then knocked on her door at 3.20am and told her there had been a ‘serious incident’, she said.

One resident who lives near to the scene here on Abbey Hill Road tells me she got a call from her son at 1am and that he told her police were outside their house @MENnewsdesk

Police remain at the scene.

One police officer is still here at the scene. It is understood he is waiting for CSI officers from to arrive.

This is another part of the cordon off Abbey Hills Road.

Video footage circulated online, seen by the Manchester Evening News, shows a large police presence on Abbey Hills Road earlier this morning.

The road appeared to be closed, with at least four police vehicles in attendance.

The road is currently open.
