A huge cordon is in place on an estate in Knutsford after 'unknown substances' were found at a property.

Bomb disposal experts are on the scene on Longridge, as well as at least 10 police vehicles and an ambulance incident response unit. A large cordon is in place around the estate with a number of homes evacuated.

The 'unknown substances' were found as officers carried out a warrant at around 7am this morning (Monday), Cheshire Police said. Six people have been arrested.

Local residents who have been evacuated are being urged to go to Knutsford Leisure Centre. A Cheshire Police spokesperson said: "Officers are currently dealing with an ongoing incident at an address in Knutsford.

"At around 7am today, Monday 27 November, Officers from Cheshire Police conducted a warrant in the Longridge area. A number of unknown substances were found in the address and six people have been arrested.

"The five men, aged 23, 24, 24, 29 and 58, along with a 22-year-old woman, are all in police custody at this time. Fire and ambulance are in attendance at the scene and a 100-metre cordon has been put in place as a precautionary measure.

"EOD are also in attendance to help establish the nature of the substances found. A reception centre for local residents has been set up at Knutsford Leisure Centre. Further details will be provided when available.
