LIVE: Pedestrian seriously injured after being hit by tram in Oldham town centre - latest updates

A pedestrian has been seriously injured after being hit by a tram in Oldham town centre. The man was taken to hospital after being knocked down on King Street on Tuesday.

Emergency services were called to the scene around 11am.

No arrests have been made, but a cordon is in place while police 'conduct further enquiries'.

Metrolink trams are not currently stopping at Oldham Central and Oldham King Street. Diversion are also in place on some bus routes.

Danny Vaughan, Transport for Greater Manchester’s head of Metrolink, said:

At around 11am this morning a pedestrian was involved in a collision with a tram on King Street in Oldham, with emergency services arriving quickly at the scene to take the man to hospital.

Service changes remain in place on the Rochdale and East Didsbury lines with trams only running from Rochdale Town Centre to Oldham Mumps, and from East Didsbury to Westwood. Tickets and passes are being accepted on a number of local bus services which can be found on our website.

While the exact circumstances surrounding the incident are unclear, we will support the operator and police with their investigations. Our thoughts are with the man involved and their family at this time.

Metrolink has issued some information for passengers on its website. It reads:

Due to a police incident services on the Rochdale via Oldham line will not be calling at Oldham Central and Oldham King Street.
