LIVE: Police close main road in Bolton after 'serious' crash - latest updates

A main road in Bolton remains closed off this morning after reports of a 'serious crash'.

The A666 St Peter's Way was first shut off by police at around 9pm on Sunday evening. A huge emergency services response descended on the scene last night, with witnesses reporting seeing 'at least 15 police cars' on the road.

A police helicopter also circled the scene on Sunday night. Greater Manchester Police have been contacted for further details.

This morning, a stretch of the A666 remains taped off for accident investigation work, according to traffic alert service Inrix. The road is shut between Turton Street and Folds Road.

Last night, a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service (GMFRS) said: "At just before 8.40pm today (Sunday March 10) three fire engines from Bolton North, Farnworth, and Bolton Central fire stations were called to reports of a road traffic collision on St Peter’s Way, Bolton.

"Crews remain in attendance alongside colleagues from North West Ambulance Service and Greater Manchester Police."

A GMP incident command unit van is stationed on the road.

The northbound side of the A666 remains closed this morning, according to traffic alert service Inrix.

Accident investigation work is continuing between Bradford Street and Turton Street.

Due to the closure on the A666, traffic is heavy in the surrounding areas.
