Tameside traffic chaos LIVE as roads closed after reports of crash - latest updates

Police are responding to reports of a collision in Tameside which has led to road closures causing traffic chaos in the area. Mottram Moor is closed in both directions with traffic stood still between the A6018 Back Moor and A628 Market Street.

It comes after Greater Manchester Police were called to reports of a collision at around 3.20pm today (March 24). Road closures are in place while emergency services respond.

One eyewitness told the Manchester Evening News that an air ambulance was spotted landing nearby. Elliot Eastwick, who has been caught up in the traffic, said: "In both directions everywhere, I'd say just getting onto 10 square miles, it's stationary."

Routes through Broadbottom, Charlesworth and Woolley Bridge are all heavily congested as drivers look to divert around the closure.

Bus services will not be serving Roe Cross, Mottram Moor, Hollingworth, Hadfield and Glossop 'until further notice', according to Stagecoach Manchester. The bus operator posted on X that the 237 service will be terminating in Staylbridge due to the incident.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Officers are responding to reports of a collision on Mottram Moor, Mottram, following a call at around 3.20pm today (24 March 2024). Road closures are in place while emergency services respond."

North West Ambulance Service has been contacted for comment.
